Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

+ What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Massage therapy and other techniques of body healing are practices that benefit the overall health and longevity of the physical self. Massage is a useful tool to increase relaxation and blood flow, improve circulation and sleep, address issues with the body’s nervous system, and promote body awareness.

This increase in the capacity to consciously observe the internal processes of our bodies is known as interoception, and studies have shown that raising this body awareness correlates with positive physical and mental health. Conversely, low interoception is associated with increased awareness of pain. Massage helps bring you into your body so you can heal with it.

+ What does massage therapy treat?

Massage can be used in conjunction with other healing methods to address a range of ailments including muscle tension and scar tissue, sports injuries, insomnia, depression and anxiety, headaches, fibromyalgia, and digestive disorders.

+ Do you have intake forms available to complete upon arrival?

Yes, I ask that all clients complete a simple intake form at the beginning of the first session. Please arrive 15 minutes early to your scheduled session to allow enough time to complete the necessary forms.

+ My skin is sensitive; what type of oil or cream do you use?

Only organic and other high-quality lotions and oils that do not contain parabens are used during massage sessions. I favor a combination of organic olive, sunflower or safflower oil but am happy to make accommodations for clients with sensitivities. If you have severe allergies, please provide this information prior to your session.

+ What type of massage techniques do you use in your practice?

Focused sessions are offered that emphasize either Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai-Yoga, or Myofascial Release. I augment my sessions with a combination of techniques such as Acupressure, Reflexology, Reiki, and Aromatherapy.

+ What payment forms do you accept? Do you accept insurance?

I accept cash, debit, credit, and Paypal. Although I am currently unable to accept or bill insurance, upon request a receipt can be provided to you to submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement.

+ Do you provide gift certificates onsite?

You may purchase an electronic massage gift certificate. Physical gift certificates are not currently available onsite, but one may be sent in a greeting card through the US mail to a recipient if you do not live in the area and would prefer this option. Please contact me for details.

+ What should I wear during a massage?

For traditional Thai-Yoga Massage or a full Reiki session, I encourage clients to come dressed in loose, comfortable clothing that will accommodate gentle stretching. During Swedish or Deep Tissue, I encourage clients to undress to their comfort level, and I utilize professional draping techniques to ensure privacy and comfort throughout the session.

+ How do I book an appointment?

It’s easiest to book online using Massage Book. Appointments can also be made by calling (206) 390-4418.

+ How do I cancel an appointment?

Cancellations need to be made 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment. You can do so online from the Massage Book page, by emailing, or calling directly at (206) 390-4418. Please contact me right away if you need to cancel an appointment. If appropriate notice is not provided, you may be subject to a $30 missed appointment fee.

+ Can I come for my scheduled massage with a cold or the flu?

I ask that you refrain from getting a massage if you have a strong suspicion that you are sick, as a protective measure for other clients as well as myself. Please provide as much advance notice as possible by calling (206) 390-4418.

+ What is your privacy policy?

I follow standard HIPAA practices and promise to never share your contact or personal information with any third parties. Medical records will be kept private and secure unless requested by you or a court of law. Your phone number and email address are only collected as a means of communicating with you directly.

+ I forgot to shave my legs…

Me too! In other words, it doesn’t matter. I work with folks of all backgrounds and consciously cultivate a safe space of body acceptance and self-love. Massage therapists are familiar with all the quirks and foibles of human bodies and understand firsthand that everything from stretch marks to scars indicates a life well lived. There is no judgment here; there’s simply gratitude that you’ve chosen to embark on this vulnerable journey with me to pursue healing.
